Pierce
strategy is to focus on technical areas where it has gained
expertise. During the 90’s Pierce worked in telecom and
networks. With the decline of this sector, the Company has refocused
on IT, software and power projects, returning to Pierce’s
experience gained in these sectors during the 80’s. Pierce
believes that consolidation will be the trend in the technology
sector over the next several years. In IT, the Company is concentrating
on systems integrators and service providers, particularly as
they pertain to the government sector which is currently in
consolidation. In the software segment, the Company is concentrating
on enterprise software, with a focus on security solutions protecting
internet applications, content, and enterprise networks, as
well as niche applications that can be desirable product line
extensions to the larger enterprise software companies. This
consolidation trend has just begun.
With
respect to power, Pierce has financed thermal and hydroelectric
projects overseas in the past but is currently focusing on alternative
or renewable power: wind, biomass and solar. The Company has
completed or is working on wind power projects in California,
Colorado, Pennsylvania and offshore of the Continental United
States. It has solar projects in both in Arizona and California,
and a biomass project in Central America.
